WORKING WITH AN ACCENT - Actors, Directors, Casting Agents and Individual Clients Actors Problem: How many times have you phoned your agent who says ‘Got an audition tomorrow 10am, great part. Oh and can you do a Wakefield accent?’ Sound familiar? And its at this point you reach for notes and scraps of paper your voice teacher gave you at Drama School, or desperately flick through your address book to see if anyone comes from Wakefield! Solution: I can offer you a One to One session to go over the accent and speech, or as a regular client provide advice over the phone helping you to brush up your accent in time. Directors Problem: Accent work for you production. Your vision for the play can be hindered by accent problems. It’s supposed to be set in Wales and some of your actors sound like they are from Bombay. Solution: I can help the actor to sound authentic and connected to the accent. I use a very practical, aural, oral and visual approach to the work. Casting Agents Problem: They like the look of the actor but he’s English and the part is an American, or she’s Irish and needs to sound Scottish. Solution: I can help! Individual Clients Problem: Do you have a strong Dutch accent and need to sound British or maybe you have problems with clarity and pronunciation.
